Etiquette in the Qur'an
Besides the laws revealed by Allah that were
designed to govern our lives, the Qur'an has also indicated 'Etiquette' which
we are advised to maintain in our dealings with each other on this planet.
"Surely, this Quran guides to the most upright way
and gives good news to the believers who do good deeds,
so that they will have a great reward"
-- al-Isra’ 17:9
and gives good news to the believers who do good deeds,
so that they will have a great reward"
-- al-Isra’ 17:9
The following listed items are not LAWS, but when Allah makes a recommendation, it is always very advisable for us to 'hear & obey' in a guarantee that it will lead to happiness for all involved.
Always Respond to a 'Greeting':
"When you are greeted by anyone,
respond with a better greeting or at least return it;
God takes account of all things."
(an-Nisa’ 4:86)
respond with a better greeting or at least return it;
God takes account of all things."
(an-Nisa’ 4:86)
Always Say 'Good' things:
"Do you not consider how God
makes up a parable?
A good word may be compared to a good tree
whose root is firm and whose branches soar up into the sky.
It yields its food each season with its Lord´s permission.
God composes parables for mankind so that they may be reminded."
(Ibrahim 14:24-25)

(Ibrahim 14:24-25)
Be 'Humble', and speak 'Lightly':
"Walk modestly and lower your voice,
for the ugliest of all voices is the braying of the ass."
(Luqman 31:19)
for the ugliest of all voices is the braying of the ass."
(Luqman 31:19)
Invite to Allah with wisdom and kindness:
"Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and fair
exhortation
and reason with them in a way that is best.
Your Lord knows best those who have strayed away from His path,
and He knows best those who are rightly guided."
(an-Nahl’ 16:125)
"It is by God’s grace that you were gentle with them
for if you had been harsh and hard-hearted, they would surely have deserted you
so bear with them and pray for forgiveness for them.
Take counsel with them in the conduct of affairs;
then, when you have decided upon a course of action,
place your trust in God: for God loves those who place their trust in Him."
(al-E-Imran 3:159)
and reason with them in a way that is best.

(an-Nahl’ 16:125)

place your trust in God: for God loves those who place their trust in Him."
(al-E-Imran 3:159)
Be Kind to your parents:
"Your Lord has commanded that you should worship none but
Him,
and show kindness to your parents.
If either or both of them attain old age with you,
say no word of contempt to them and do not rebuke them,
but always speak gently to them
and treat them with humility and tenderness and say,
Lord, be merciful to them both, as they raised me up when I was little."
(al-Isra’ 17:23-24)
and show kindness to your parents.

(al-Isra’ 17:23-24)
Suppress Anger & Forgive People:
"for those who spend, both in prosperity and adversity,
who restrain their anger and are forgiving towards their fellow men
- God loves those who do good works."
(al-E-Imran 3:134)
who restrain their anger and are forgiving towards their fellow men
- God loves those who do good works."
(al-E-Imran 3:134)
Counter Evil with Good:
"Good and evil deeds are not equal. Repel evil with what is
better;
then you will see that one who was once your enemy has become your dearest friend"
(Fussilat 41:34)
"those who are steadfast in seeking the countenance of their Lord,
and pray regularly and spend secretly and openly
out of what We have provided them with,
and ward off evil with good. Theirs shall be the final abode."
(al-Ra’d 13:22)

(Fussilat 41:34)
"those who are steadfast in seeking the countenance of their Lord,
and pray regularly and spend secretly and openly
out of what We have provided them with,
and ward off evil with good. Theirs shall be the final abode."
(al-Ra’d 13:22)
Do NOT Say 'Bad' things:
Do NOT be 'Arrogant' or 'Carefree':
"Do not avert your face from people out of haughtiness
and do not walk with pride on the earth:
for, behold, God does not love arrogant and boastful people."
(Luqman 31:18)
and do not walk with pride on the earth:
for, behold, God does not love arrogant and boastful people."
(Luqman 31:18)
Do NOT engage in 'ignorant' talk:
"The true servants of the Gracious One are those who walk upon
the earth with humility
and when they are addressed by the ignorant ones, their response is, Peace"
(al-Furqan 25:63)
and when they are addressed by the ignorant ones, their response is, Peace"
(al-Furqan 25:63)
Do NOT Curse the Idolaters and their idols:
"But do not revile those [beings] whom they invoke instead of
God,
lest they, in their hostility, revile God and out of ignorance.
Thus to every people We have caused their actions to seem fair.
To their Lord they shall all return,
and He will declare to them all that they have done."
(al-An'am 6:108)
lest they, in their hostility, revile God and out of ignorance.
Thus to every people We have caused their actions to seem fair.
To their Lord they shall all return,
and He will declare to them all that they have done."
(al-An'am 6:108)
Do NOT make fun of others, or call them names:
"Believers, let not some men among you ridicule others:
it may be that the latter are better than the former:
nor should some women laugh at others:
it may be that the latter are better than the former:
do not defame or be sarcastic to each other,
or call each other by [offensive] nicknames.
How bad it is to earn an evil reputation after accepting the faith!
Those who do not repent are evil-doers."
(al-Hujarat 49:11)

(al-Hujarat 49:11)
Do NOT be suspicious, or spy on one another, or backbite:
"Believers, if an evil-doer brings you news,
ascertain the correctness of the report fully,
lest you unwittingly harm others,
and then regret what you have done"
(al-Hujarat 49:6)
"Believers, avoid much suspicion.
Indeed some suspicion is a crime.
And do not spy on one another and do not backbite.
Would any of you like to eat his dead brothers’ flesh?
No, you would hate it.
Fear God, God is ever forgiving and most merciful."
(al-Hujarat 49:12)

(al-Hujarat 49:12)
Do NOT be 'Racist':
"0 mankind, We have created you from a male and female,
and set you up as nations and tribes
so you may recognize [and cooperate with] one another.
The noblest among you with God is that one of you who best performs his duty;
God is Aware, Informed."
(al-Hujarat 49:13)
